Advice for the class of 2016

My advice on the oncoming eighth graders is that if you get in trouble once then the rest of the year the teachers have an eye out on you. Keep your grades up because when they go down it is harder to get them back up. Be very careful with the laptops because it is easy to break the screen and it is really expensive. Do not talk back to teachers because that will for sure make you end up in the office.

I learned that I am a better writer when I write about what I like, not what bores me. I also like it better when we don’t have to do at least one a week, it is way more layed back. We have a lot of time to do something. I also write better when I am rushed or under pressure it makes me actually work hard and pay attention to what I am writing.

The Irony of Harrison Berguron

Have you ever been forced to do something and can’t do anything about it? That is how the characters feel in the story, “Harrison Bergeron.” The mode of literature in this story is an Irony.

In this story everybody has to be “handicapped” so they are all equal. The strong people have to wear weights so they are weak and the smart people have to wear a earpiece that rings every 20 seconds so they don’t think too much.

The mode of literature in this story is an irony. The reason for this is because the main character is not in control. The chaos in this story is that everybody is equal and they have to wear metal to keep them equal. The struggle for sanity in this story is when Harrison has to try to get free. The death in this story is when Harrison and his wife get killed.

The point of this story is that you when you get forced to do something you shouldn’t try to change it because you could possibly end up dying. Also that there is always that one person that stands out in the crowd.

The year was 2081, Everybody was different, different looks, different strengths, nobody was alike. They all lived in America, but it wasn't called America anymore, it was called Wisconsin. Just one big Wisconsin country. The cars that they drove flew, the buildings floated, and the people were like superhumans, they could run really fast and they were very strong. Except for this one little boy who couldn't do any of that stuff. His name was Casey, his parents died in a car accident back in 2078, when cars still drove on the road. He was living on his own, on the streets. He got his food from people that were kind enough to stop by and care for him. but they couldn't take him into their house because that would be against the law, people that live in your house have to be related to you. Every day the president would stop by him, but he was very selfish, he wouldn't give him a shelter or food. He would just stop by look at him and then leave. One day this guy that Casey had never seen before, came and picked him up and took him to his home. When they got to his house it was huge, it was like a mansion, and he was the only one living in it. The next day the president came back to where Casey was living, and when he saw him not there he was wondering where he was. Since it was illegal to take somebody into your home and that you could be murdered, he went on a search to find out where he is, he posted stuff all around, and he put it on the T.V. too. Once the man saw all of the things on T.V. he got very worried, but he cant just throw the kid back on the street, so he still kept him. After a couple months he thought that they gave up. Then somebody rang the doorbell, since this is the future, they have all hi-tech things so he looked at his T.V. and it showed a picture of who was at the door, at first he couldn't really see that much but then he got a closer look and it was the president he put Casey in his basement and locked it. Then he went and answered the door. The president said "have you seen the little boy that used to sit on the corner down the road?" The man was said, "no, I haven't seen him lately, why?" Then the president said, "somebody said that he saw you driving away." Then he just left, didn't even let him answer, just left. Then he took Casey and said, "we have to get you out of here" so he walked outside and right when he walked out, the president was standing there. He said, "you know what the punishment for this is, right?" he said, "ya, I know" so he took the man and put him in a jail cell until they could do what they needed to do. Then he put Casey back on the corner for him to stay there and have him live his life on his own.

Good Times

The night of the super bowl I was at my grandma's house, we had about 25 people over there and once it was over and the packers won, my friend Tommy called me. It was only like 9:30 and he asked if I wanted to come over, so i told my mom that I was going to my friends house, she said it was OK. When I got to his house he answered the door and said "Hey whats up?" so we went in and we sat on his couch and watched T.V. then he tells me that his parents aren't home. So I was like OK no big deal then about 10 minutes later his mom calls and said that she was on her way. he told me that they are still 45 minutes away. Then about 10 minutes later his parent's pull into the driveway. He told me that once they close the garage door I can run out the front door. Well his parents didn't close the garage so he says, "Colin, come with me." and tells me to run out the back door. At this time there was still 4 feet of snow in some places so I had to run through the snow and then go back to my house.

This weekend

This weekend I didn't really do anything special i went to my dads house on Saturday and slept pretty much all day. Then on Sunday i went back to my moms house and she was sick so we just sat there all day.

Jack London's Tragedy

Have you ever been in a life or death situation? In this story, “To Build a Fire” by Jack London, it is a story of a man struggling to stay alive while he is in the Yukon and it is 75 below zero, and the only thing with him is his dog. This story is a tragedy.

The main character in this story is called “The Man.” The man is trapped up in the Yukon in 75 below weather. He doesn’t know what to do, in the story it says,” He was without imagination.” Then the dog is there and he is smarter than the man, “This was a matter of instinct.” The symbols in this story are the cold, because that symbols death and danger. Then fire for warmth and survival, and the dog for warmth and natural covering.

This story is a tragedy, the conflict is that it is 75 below zero, and the man is traveling in it. The rise to power is how he built his first fire and that he was making good time. The tragic flaw was that “He was without imagination” meaning that he could not imaging the good or bad things that could happen to him. Then the tragic fall was that he built a fire under a tree but it went out. Then the death was that the man freezes to death.

Jack London's tragedy tells you that you should listen to people sometimes that give you advice and they know what they are talking about. Like how the guy from Sulphar Creek told him not to travel that way. And that you should always be prepared for any circumstances.

Red Midnight

Has your village ever been burned down and you family murdered? Probably not, but in this story that is what happens to a 12 year old boy and his sister when the soldiers take over.

In this story, a 12 year old boys village is burned down and his family is dead, the only person left is his little sister. So what he does it he is on his way to the USA but on the way he has to hide from soldiers and ride across the ocean in a small boat that is like a kayak, it is called a cayuco.

When was football invented?

There are different types or meanings of football, America is the only place that has the meaning of throwing a ball and trying to get it into an end zone. Other places it means soccer, and it can also mean rugby, but American football is probably the most common meaning for it.
American football has its origins in a soccer-like game that developed in the middle of the nineteenth century. McGill University of Canada helped to change American football to a game more similar to rugby. Walter Camp helped to standardize the rules of American football and make it more like the game we know today. Football is a competitive sport; it was first invented or established around 1873. The point of football is to catch the ball, which is kind of shaped like an egg, and try to run it across the other goal line, while you are running it the other team is trying to tackle you.
Football has been around for a long time it has gone from soccer, to rugby, and to what it is now as American football. Although it has been through all of those names all of them are still played all around the world (who invented american football).

The buttons are white,
looking like crystals.
From the sight,
it looks kind of mystical.
After we're done,

Snowboarding Gear

Snowboarding is a sport that you obviously do in snow. To go snowboarding, you will have to have a snowboard. It is a wooden board that goes from 5 feet long to about 6 1/2 feet long, depending on how tall you are. They measure it by centimeters so it goes from about 130-160. Most of the boards have a thin piece of metal that boarders the edge of the snowboard.

There are many different types of gear you will need. With many designs on the board, some brands are Burton, 686, Forum, Ride, and Rome. These are just some of the brands there are probably about 50-75. My favorite is Burton, Burton makes snowboards, boots, bindings, clothes and plenty of other things. Snowboarding boots are specially designed to fit into bindings, the go about half way up your shin, the main reason for that is so it is stiff that way your ankles cant bent and possibly break. The bindings are screwed into the board. They have two straps that go over your boot so they stay in place when your riding. They also have an about 8 inch back on it so your feet don’t slip out.

Snowboarding is a great sport. They have it in the Olympics and they have a lot of other competitions. So you will need the right gear to go. With many different varieties and brands you wont have a hard time choosing what you want. So sometime you should get out and try it.

Speak

In the book Speak by Laurie Halse Anderson, There are plenty of examples of symbolism. The main character is Melinda, everyone hates her because she called the cops on a party at the end of summer.

In this book the symbols are the couch, the mirror, the bedroom, the trees, and the mascot. The couch symbolizes having two different sides. The mirror shows that Melinda doesn’t like who she is, so she covers it up. The bedroom also shows that Melinda doesn’t know who she is because it is about what her friends like. The trees remind her about bad memories that she has had. Then mascot keeps changing at her school so that shows that the school doesn’t have an identity.

Melinda is a teenage girl in high school who called the police at a party where everyone was drinking at and she got a lot of people in trouble. When school starts everybody hates her and she becomes an outcast. In the book Melinda seems to be depressed and has no motivation in life. She says that she would rather sleep than do homework.

Science

Yes I think that patriotism still matters because people are still going to war for our country and people still care about our country. Patriotiism means support,love, and to be willing to serve and sacrifice for our country.

I think that the short story, "a body in henrys house" is a romance. The main characters get married then he tells her that there is a body in his house. She was like ok, its not too bad I guess. But when she goes in the cupboard she sees it. She told him to move it; so he did. They had kids and the kids played with the pinky. As the years passed, they passed in front of the fire.

Hemingway Essay

Throughout the world about 2000 people kill themselves every day. In the U.S., there are over 80 deaths from suicide a day, and about 30,000 a year. In this short story “A Clean Well Lighted Place” the old man tries to kill himself but his niece lets him free. This story is in the tragic mode of literature.

This story fits into the tragic mode of literature because the old man tries to hang himself so he is feeling kind of tragic. Then he is at the bar and is feeling good which is the rise to power. Then he has to go home without a wife or anything which is a tragic fall. The death symbolism in this story is when the old man goes home and has nothing to look forward to.

Like the old man the older bartender has a rise to power. He is a happy person while he is at the cafe because he has the company of others.He doesn’t have a wife and he doesn’t really have anything to look forward to. His tragic fall is when he has to go home; he has nothing to go home to.

Hemingway's tragedy is really about the older men in the story who don't really have anything to do in life. They need a clean well-lighted place to brighten the path to the rest of their lives.

This weekend i went up north and went fishing tubing and to noahs ark 2 times it was really fun

Memorial Day fair


The Memorial Day fair is held in Pewaukee Wisconsin. Obviously on Memorial Day weekend. There are a lot of fun games and rides there. It is at Village Park. My favorite ride is the zipper. It is when your in like a cage and it spins around while the whole thing spins like a zipper.

Bass Fishing

Around the world there are hundreds of different fish. Some of these we eat, and some of these are game fish. But my favorite are the Largemouth and Smallmouth Bass, both of them are fun to catch and they taste great. Bass are truly freshwaters best fish.

The Largemouth Bass is named for its wide mouth. The jaw of this fish extends to below the eye. Largemouth grow very big. The record is 22 pounds, 4 ounces. Largemouths are voracious feeders, eating insects, crayfish, smaller fish, and other small creatures. They are often found in freshwater lakes and ponds, and will grow to a large size in deep water with plenty of food. The smallmouth bass is obviously named for its small mouth. They also grow very big. The record is only 15 pounds and 11 ounces but it is still a big fish. They eat the same things that largemouth’s eat. And they are also found in freshwater ponds and lakes.

The largemouth and smallmouth bass have the same characteristics of what they eat and where they live. But I would probably prefer to catch a smallmouth over a large mouth because they taste great and put up one great fight.
